NAME
The Emperor
DESCRIPTION

SYMBOLISM
It represents earthly power and will.
GENERAL MEANINGS
Security, character, authority. He who is aware of his strength and his power.
PERSONAL COMBINATION
Frederick II. The great figure of Frederick II appeared in the history of Italy in 1220 and even more so in the history of Viterbo. His conflict with the papacy remains one of the most remarkable events of this troublesome medieval period. One of the events of the military life of Frederick II gave Viterbo the opportunity to write perhaps one of the most beautiful pages in its history, in which we see the austere figures of Raniero Capocci and Rosa of Viterbo, a humble and gentle young woman who, protected only by her faith, did not hesitate to challenge him. The coin he holds in his hand serves as a reminder that the city, taking advantage of the right to coin money granted by himself in the second half of the thirteenth century, opened a mint and created a new currency that took the name of viterbino.
